Diyas have the most importance in Diwali. Among the small diyas available in Mumbai, singer Kailash Kher gets big and deep diyas made for himself from the potter. Kailash, who believes in the values given by his parents, who are the light of his life, says, ‘From Dhanteras to the main Diwali, Brahmins perform rituals at home. For the main diya, ghee comes from our cowshed. Apart from this, I bring deep and thick diyas, which can hold at least 50 grams of mustard oil. We have a farmhouse in Haryana. There is a huge fire around it.
Every year we procure 20 canisters of mustard oil from those who grow mustard in large quantities. When I make cotton wicks with my staff, I remember my parents. Mother used to get 1-1.5 kg of cotton from father a week in advance. When we used to make wicks sitting with them, we used to learn a lot by listening to stories related to Diwali. I also tell stories of festivals and mythological temples on my YouTube channel Kailasa Siddhi. This time I have told about how the Mahalakshmi Temple came into existence in Mumbai.
